Dave Wright

Dave is TeamSpy Director and owner of main sponsor SpyVélo.  A renowned coffee lover, best mate to Nobby Border and an accomplished sailor, Dave is also a keen cyclist and can be seen on Strava clocking up his mileage at seriously dedicated times of the day!

Nobby Border

Nobby is joint Team Director alongside Dave and an important part of the management team at Spy Hq.  He has the casting vote in all major decisions and has the ability to sniff out serious sporting talent when he sees it.  A keen runner, Nobby is partial to a 'Park Run' whenever he's not overseeing the development of the team.

Alison Radcliffe

Alison is one of TeamSpy’s sponsors and partner to team director Dave.  She has supported the team since its formation both through main sponsor SpyVélo and through Isle of Wight Pearl who sponsor the TimeTrial series run on the Isle of Wight.

Claire Bradley
Team Secretary

Claire is TeamSpy's racing secretary across many sports, including British Cycling, CTT, England Athletics and British Triathlon.  Based at Spy Hq she assists with the day to day running of the team including all athlete and governing body affiliations, travel and team kit. Claire enjoys mountainbiking and sailing with her young family and is even known to do some XC running too!

Alex Tunnicliffe
Timekeeping & Support

Alex is an integral part of TeamSpy and was instrumental in the tandem attempt at Race Around Ireland providing support and nutrition.  She is now official timekeeper for team sponsor SpyVélo at CTT Time Trialling events on the Isle of Wight.  Alex is a seasoned marathon runner herself and a talented baker (her lemon drizzle cake is legendary!).

Harriet Mason
Event Support

Harriet joined Spy Hq earlier this year working on the operational side of SpyVélo’s events programme both on The Isle of Wight and The North Isle. She enjoys sailing, running and riding, regularly taking part in Island based events such as the annual Randonnee.

Sarah Probert
Media & Event Support

Sarah is the team Press Officer and writes all the team race reports for both the local papers and various media outlets.  She is also part of the Event Management Team for SpyVélo including timekeeping at local Time Trials as well as maintaining the team website.  A seasoned runner herself, Sarah has competed at half and full marathon, 10 mile races and events in the Hampshire Road Race League as well as running cross country in the winter months.

Mandy Steward

Marathon and Ultra marathon runner Mandy completed her first competitive 26.2 miles in London in 2005 and has been competing ever since. In 2017 she completed 3 marathons, obtaining a ‘Good for Age’ qualification for London 2018. A busy year saw finishes at 1st senior female for the St George’s 10, 5th female overall in IW half and 3rd female at IW full marathon. In addition to running she also gets out on her road bike and has undertaken a few short distance Tri events. Mandy is also a part time fitness instructor on top of a career as a Nurse.

Suzy Russell

Yachtswoman and dinghy sailor Suzy joined TeamSpy in the summer of 2017. Having stood out at a local 'Ladies Only' TimeTrial event hosted by team sponsor SpyVélo. She quickly adapted to racing and has embarked on her intro into track racing at the Velodrome Winter League at Calshot. Suzy now races all the SpyVélo TT's for the team.

Anne Loh

Anne comes to TeamSpy from a background in white water kayaking, moutainbiking and rock climbing.  She likes the challenge of both long distance and hill climbing when cycling and, having only taken to the road 4 years ago, now enjoys discovering Island roads as well as competing in various events such as Ride London and the New Forest 100 for which she took the crown for QOM in 2017.  Anne is now looking ahead to expand her cycling disciplines to include racing both here on the Island and in events on the mainland.

Jess Olden

Keen runner, mountainbiker and dinghy sailor, Jess joined the team in 2018 after finishing strongly in a local XC Half Marathon.  Keen to take part in more competitive running, Jess is looking forward to the Hampshire Road Race League events across the next 12 months and may even try her hand at TT's on the bike.  She's a strong addition to the ladies team.

Lauren McIntyre

Lauren is a strong runner across most distances and has been competing for the team for a couple of seasons.  She is a seasoned marathon and half marathon runner having competed at Belfast and Brighton.  Young mum Lauren is also a competitive cross country runner and takes part regularly in Hampshire Road Race League events.  Enthusiastic and dedicated, she is an integral part of the ladies running team.

Emily Moore

A keen road cyclist and mountain biker for a number of years. Emily enjoys all aspects of cycling including sportives, weekend mountain biking with her family, coffee rides with friends and holiday riding in hot and hilly Mallorca.
She has participated in many events on the Isle of Wight and around the UK, achieving 1st female in the Etape Cymru, 1st female in the 7 Hills Killer MTB (twice!) and a women’s top 100 finish in Ride London.

Julie Arnold

Julie is relatively new to cycling and has become more active within the sport in the last 2 years.  After a couple of weekend rides with a group of friends she found enjoyment in the challenges of riding on the Isle of Wight and realised how much she enjoyed the hills.  Julie soon felt the need for growth and racing for TeamSpy has given her the focus she needed. In her first TT she came 3rd out of 26 other females, a strong rider and definitely one for the future.

Rob Merrifield
Team Captain

Rob is TeamSpy's Captain and one of the original founders. A serving firefighter, Rob came to the team from triathlon and marathon running. He competed at the British Triathlon Championships in 2012 before switching to Ironman and racing at the European Ironman Championships in 2014 whilst being coached by Geoff Watkin and  Mark Threlfall. Rob is the stoker in the tandem team and in 2016 he partnered Gary Kurth at The Race Around Ireland.  He races TT and Crit both singularly and as part of the tandem team.

Matt Sharp
Running, Triathlon

Former U23 World Triathlon champion Matt moved to the Island in 2016 having previously competed professionally in Olympic distance triathlon on the Great Britain squad for a number of years. Now a full time elite athlete, and under coach Geoff Watkin, he now competes in distance running events from 5k to marathon, recently taking 3rd overall at the Vitality 10k with Sir Mo Farah in 1st, finishing 2nd fastest Brit at the 2017 Berlin Marathon and claiming the title of Hampshire Cross Country Champion in 2018.  He has recently returned to triathlon.

Gary Kurth
Running, Cycling, Triathlon

Originally from South Africa, Gary competed at a national and international level in swimming before relocating to the UK. After taking up triathlon to fill the swimming void, he represented the UK in 2010 European Age Group Champs in Ireland (5th); the 2010 World Champs in Budapest (44th) and the 2012 European champs in Israel (13th), more recently taking to the longer distance of Ironman with a 10hr finish time. In 2016 Gary partnered Rob Merrifield at the Ultra Cycling event ‘Race Around Ireland’ on a Tandem.

Jack Grundy
Running, Cycling

From a young age Jack enjoyed cross country running and mountain biking but originally came from a swimming background. At 15 he started to become involved in triathlon.
Jack graduated from Bath University with a 2.1 in a Bachelor of Science in Sport Performance. Bath University helped Jack to progress as an athlete and as a coach. During this time he trained & raced with the elite Team Bath Triathlon squad, also racing for Total Fitness Bath & on the French Grande U23 Elite Circuit in Europe.
Jack has produced notable results at all levels including UK Xtera Champion, 3rd overall UK Aquathlon Championships & 7th Otillo World Championships.

Jack now lives with his family on the Isle of Wight where he runs his own coaching consultancy - Potential2Performance as well as still running and cycling competitively.

Clint Oliver

Firefighter Clint Oliver joined TeamSpy in 2017, his preferred discipline is Time Trialling and regularly races in Cat 3 at the Omega RC Circuit in Portsmouth.
Clint competed on the UK natural bodybuilding circuit for 4 years achieving 2 X 2nd place in the middleweight division qualifying him for the British Finals. He took up cycling in 2015 and his strength and raw power gained from his former sport has paid huge dividends.

James Veal

James joined TeamSpy after discovering a love for cycling in Autumn 2016 after a successful Amateur and Professional golfing career.
He soon developed the urge to race as he has a passion for all things fast!
A family man who is learning how to juggle cycling and family life, 2017 was James 1st competitive year and his aim was to reach 3rd Cat status which he achieved, he now has a goal of racing in Cat 2.
James enjoys Circuit Racing and Time Trials and is looking to expand to Road Races in the future.

Dave Hunt

Dave has been with TeamSpy from the start. A serving wholetime firefighter, Dave has competed in long distance running for over 10 years. Now professionally coached by Geoff Watkin, Dave represented the team at the 2018 Virgin London Marathon.

Paul Martin

Paul was new to the team for the 2018 season having been a stalwart of Vectis Roads CC for many years. Starting competitive cycling in 2006 with his main discipline the Time Trial, at all distances he has achieved great success.
Duathlons and running events up to half marathon distance are also a winter favourite for Paul. Known to like riding in the sun his pre season training takes place every year in Majorca which helps get the racing season off to a flying start.
Enjoying the challenges of climbing, Paul has taken many non competitive endurance cycling trips with Alpine Cadence to the Alps, the Dolomites and the Pyrenees.
His favourite events are La Madeleine Sportive and the Cyclocourch Courcheval Time Trial.

Alex Paul

Alex is a keen road cyclist having joined the team from a background of several years sportive and endurance riding.
Off the wheels he is a Resuscitation Officer and Advanced Life Support Instructor, a father of one and enjoys watching road cycling, illustration and music.

Rollo Dixon

Dad, designer and constant cycling daydreamer; Rollo had the choice of joining a gym or buying a bike for his commutes - he chose the latter and hasn't looked back. Having ridden solo for a couple of years he was offered the opportunity to give racing a go as part of TeamSpy.
With a preference for undulating terrain, Rollo's next goal is to test his legs with some road racing.

Rowdie Loughlin

School teacher Rowdie first got on a road bike in 2013. He won the Cat 2 Green Jersey at Tour of Bintan (Indonesia) in 2013 and rode Hong Kong National road race and TT for Team Direct Asia 2014 and 2015. His extensive cycling career also includes the Tour of East Taiwan, Tour of Matabungkay (Phillipines), Tour of Chiang Mai Masters and Road Races in China and Singapore. He arrived on the Island in 2015 and is now dad to 2 girls.  Rowdie has brought some tactical knowledge to the team and has proved invaluable with his ideas on racing strategy.

Martin Piper

Martin started racing pretty much since graduating from university in 1994, racking up the best part of a thousand events since, the majority of these being Time Trialling locally and across on the mainland. Personal highlights for him over the years have been the Island Games, National 10 and 25 mile TT's, British TT Championships, Bike Blenheim and The Duo Normande. Having taken a little time out of competition due to essential commitments over the last few years, this great opportunity to get back in the saddle and race for Team Spy has reignited his passion for racing and he is now very much looking forward to the next chapter.

Kev Chant

Kev joined the team in 2018 having stood out on the bike at local events, originally from a bodybuilding background he carried that strength and power across to racing, gaining his Cat 3 license in just 2 outings, one of the strongest riders in the team Kev will be one to watch.

Robbie Southwell

After a few years away from cycling to focus on his sailing abroad, Robbie is back on the bike again picking up where he left off a few years ago. He will mainly be racing Crits, Track and Time Trials and has already gained his Cat 3 licence.  Robbie is now looking to get himself back up the ranks again!

Joe Newnham

Joe joined TeamSpy having taken up road riding a few years ago. Built for the hills, Joe took part in the 2017 La Marmotte, the 174km sportive in the French Alps (with 5000m of climbing in a single day). Having caught the riding bug, 2018 saw Joe take part in the inaugural Haute Route Stelvio (the multi stage road race in the Italian Alps). More recently he has taken to Criterium racing at the Omega Circuit in Portsmouth and is looking to gain enough points to join his team mates in Cat 3.

Ben Sibley

Business owner Ben took up cycling after a few years of competing in natural bodybuilding events.  He joined TeamSpy in 2017.  Still relatively new to the sport Ben's enthusiasm will definitely help him achieve his goals in the future.

Rich Sawdon

Rich joined the team after competing at several TT events with Team Captain, Rob. A Hampshire firefighter, Rich is an accomplished racer excelling in both Time Trials and Criterium Racing.  He has also competed in the Lanzarote Ironman competition twice.
